Just Kidding

You knew that already right? I couldn’t help myself. I have seen the trends of Greentech datacenters and cloud computing getting attention and funding lately, so I thought it would be fun to combine them and play off the recent controversy regarding boiling a kettle for a cup of tea and the amount of energy used in a Google search.

I was inspired by a post by Furgan Nazeeri Microsoft buys 37Signals.

Crimson Hexagon

March 3, 2008 by TS

SUMMARY:

Our funded start-up (based in Cambridge, MA) is seeking outstanding engineers with a wide range of skills to help found our development team. This is your chance to join a small team on the ground floor and use your creativity and expertise to help build a great product (and have fun doing it!). Please contact jobs@crimsonhexagon.com.

ABOUT US:

Crimson Hexagon is a Cambridge, MA based start-up that is addressing the question every marketer and brand manager yearns to answer: how can I make social media work for me, rather than against me? Online consumer-generated content is a potential gold mine, but deriving insights from it is extremely time-consuming and yields variable results. We can synthesize and aggregate opinions and information from that mine with proven, patent-pending blog/text reading software, based on analysis techniques and software developed by Prof. Gary King at Harvard University.

Rather than counting words or mentions, our technology automatically monitors sentiment changes daily on any user-defined topic (think mood ring vs. snapshot). For example, it can tell you how opinions on Barack Obama change on a daily basis (or even during/immediately after a debate), what consumers think about the iPhone after release, after price drop, after new campaign launch, etc. It also can be used to compare and select products (what do people think about Treo vs. Blackberry) or even to monitor competing products.

ABOUT THE JOB:

We’re looking for talented engineers, architects, web designers, and scientists to become founding members of our development team. We’re a small company, and so you can expect to have a lot of responsibility and flexibility. Depending on your skills and interests, you’ll have the opportunity to:

- Help design the overall system architecture
- Solve challenging algorithmic and scalability problems
- Work with customers and marketing to determine product direction and features
- Apply your design and implementation creativity to the user interface
- Use the latest technologies and tools
- Create a product with huge commercial potential

ABOUT YOU:

If you’re reading this, you probably already know that there are two characteristics of great engineers:
1) You’re smart.
2) You’re able to get things done.

We’d like to add a third of our own:
3) You share our general values by recognizing the value of teamwork, life-work balance, intellectual curiosity, and a job that’s challenging, rewarding, and actually FUN.

While we’re happy to hear from anyone who’s smart, can gets things done, and shares our values, we’re of course particularly interested in people with experience and interest in certain areas:

- High-performance distributed Java server applications
- Text storage, indexing, and retrieval (Lucene etc.)
- Statistics, mathematics, and the R programming language
- Text and graph analysis and algorithms
- Scalable database architectures (MySQL, PostgreSQL, clustering, shards, etc.)
- Distributed application integration (XML, SOA, web services, etc.)
- Linux server architecture for compute and storage scalability
- Modern web applications (AJAX, CSS, Javascript, Flash, etc.)
- Data visualization (Edward Tufte etc.)
- Product and user interface design
